Srijon Chowdhury: Same Old Song

Edited by Amanda Donnan, with contributions by Mónica Belevan and SJ Cowan

This catalogue is published by the Frye Art Museum in conjunction with the exhibition Srijon Chowdhury: Same Old Song, the artist’s first museum solo exhibition. The book presents an overview of the rising painter’s career through color reproductions of his works from 2014 to 2022, including six enormous new works created for the exhibition. Featuring essays by art historian Mónica Belevan, philosopher SJ Cowan, and the exhibition’s curator, Amanda Donnan, the catalogue connects Chowdhury’s paintings to associations spanning from medieval tapestries and Hieronymus Bosch to nineteenth-century panoramas and Symbolist art. Srijon Chowdhury: Same Old Song offers a poignant assessment of an artist who tests the power of age-old symbols and art forms to compel in the modern world.
